Paprika from the local areaThe Gastronomy is extremely varied. Our favourable micro climate produces some unbeatable products: nuts, fruit jams and liquor, created with our best fruit such as cherries, raspberries, kiwis, chestnuts and walnuts. The vegetables and green produce are also exquisite, just like our lamb and, in a very unique style, the 'cabrito verato' (Verato kid, goat).

Amongst the most typical first courses of the Verato gastronomy worth highlighting our salads with peppers, Entomatá, Rin-Ran (a typical plate of Tuna with peppers), Soup of Cachuelas (a typical form of fried pig) and tomato soup.

Some of our most exquisite traditional second courses are Migas (a form of fried bread crumbs with garlic), lamb, fried or roasted baby pig, roasted kid (goat) or in Caldereta (a typical style of reduced stew) and intestines. Also typical are our very own fish from the local ponds such as Carp, Trout, Barbel, Bogue and Trench.

Our cheese also deserves a mention, the famous Verato goat and sheep cheese, both produced in the handcrafted Verato traditions.

Some of the most typical sweets of the area are The Perrunillas (a typical oval sweet), Floretas, Huesillos (little bones) and Roscas.

The star product of our gastronomy is Paprika (made from local peppers) with quality ensured label. The peppers used to create Paprika de la Vera are dried in sheds that can be seen distrubuted around the region, with Oak and Holm Oak wood smoke following a traditional hand crafted style.

In Extremadura we grow three types of peppers: sweet, bittersweet and hot. The most characteristic form of pepper in our region is the bittersweet pepper with which we create meats such as Mantanzas (small black pudding type sausages with squash and potatos), chorizos and tasajos, all of these having an unmistakable and exquisite taste.
